COURSE DESCRIPTION

The symposium is a review of classic and current practices in dental traumatology. With the summer months around the corner our goal is to provide participants with a thorough overview of the most important aspects in the clinical management of traumatic dental injuries. One hour will be dedicated to each topic in order to provide a broad overview of this complex subject.

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Dr. Sandra Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea and grew up in Southern California. She received her BS degree from University of California, San Diego and Doctor of Dental Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences School of Dentistry in 2015.Following dental school, she continued on to hospital general practice residency (GPR) at the West Los Angeles VA Health Center where she had the privilege and the honor of treating veterans. After working in private practice for one year, she started her specialist endodontic residency at Nova Southeastern University in a sunny state, Florida.

Dr. Michelle Yang graduated from UCLA School of Dentistry in 2016. She completed a general practice residency at Stony Brook University in New York in 2017. She will complete her endodontic residency this June and is joining the Cornerstone Dental Specialty practice in Irvine, California.

Dr.Jeffrey Sarmiento is originally from New York. He earned his dental degree from El Bosque University in Colombia in 2011. He returned to the United States in 2014 where he began his AEGD program in Larkin Community Hospital. Jeffrey completed his AEGD program in 2016 and worked as a general dentist in Community Health of South Florida. Jeffrey is currently in his second year of his endodontic residency and will be working in private practice in south Florida.

Dr. Heather Ryan is originally from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. After high school she moved to Charlotte North Carolina, where she resided for 7 years. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Biology at University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she also met her husband. Heather earned her DMD at Nova Southeastern University, College of Dental Medicine in 2017and was accepted in the Endodontic residency program upon graduation. After graduation, she and her husband plan to return to Charlotte where she will be joining a private practice.

Dr. Sean McCall was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He completed his undergraduate degree at Florida International University in Miami, FL. and his dental degree at the University of Florida. He began his postgraduate program at Nova Southeastern University in 2017 and plans on residing in Davie, FL upon graduation.

Dr. Alexander Paul was born and raised in the United States. He completed his undergraduate studies at Bowdoin College in 2006, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a major in History and a minor in Education. After serving for one year as an elementary school teacher, Dr. Paul attended the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Penn in 2011, graduating with honors in clinical dentistry and being elected into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. Following graduation, Dr. Paul became a commissioned officer in the United States Navy Dental Corps. He served for five years as a Dental Officer at various military bases across the United States. In 2013, he deployed with the United States Marine Corps to the Middle East as part of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit. As the sole practitioner responsible for the dental care of 2,400 marines, Dr. Paul had the opportunity to practice dentistry both at sea and in remote desert encampments. Leaving the Navy in 2016 at the rank of Lieutenant Commander, Dr. Paul moved with his family to Miami, Florida. He is currently in his second and final year of the endodontic residency program at Nova Southeastern University. Following graduation in June of this year, he plans on practicing as an endodontic specialist in Miami.


EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

At the end of the presentation attendees will:

 

  • Learn the updated classifications and protocols for managing most common traumatic dental injuries. 
  • Learn clinical procedures aimed at treating dental injuries effectively or recognizing their complex management and referring to the appropriate specialist.
