COURSE DESCRIPTION

This Three-day Continuing Education course designed for dentists in South and Central America, addresses a core theme based on the latest news from each specialty.The first class will be from Orthodontics, due to the greater popularity of this specialty in the countries where the program will be offered. This program is presentated in colloboration with NSU College of Dental Medicine faculty.

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Diego Dalla Bona, DDS, PhD

Dr. Diego Dalla Bona received his Dental Degree in 2001 from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), in Brazil.  After practicing general dentistry for 2 years, Dr. Dalla Bona traveled to Japan, where he received his Philosophy Doctorate (PhD) Certificate in 2007.  During his four years in Japan, Dr. Dalla Bona also received research and clinical training in Orthodontics at Hiroshima University. Since graduating from Hiroshima University, he has been very involved in academics. For several years, Dr. Dalla Bona was the Director of Clinical Orthodontics for a private clinic located in Brazil. Before moving to United States, Dr. Dalla Bona earned a 2-year specialty certificate in Prosthodontics from SL Mandic, Brazil. Once in America, Dr. Dalla Bona completed a 2-year AEGD residency in Orofacial Pain at the University of Southern California in 2015.  His major areas of scientific research include Dental Ceramics, Occlusion, Bonding and Temporomandibular Disorders. Dr. Dalla Bona is an internationally recognized lecturer; he is the author of several scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Dalla Bona is an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Dental Association and the Florida Dental Association.  Dr. Dalla Bona is a licensed dentist in Washington and Florida. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cariology and Restorative Dentistry at Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Sergio Jakob, DDS, MS

Dr. Sergio Jakob received his Dental Degree in 1982 from University of Mogi das Cruzes, Sao Paulo, in Brazil. Four years after working as a general dentistry in his private office, he began working as an assistant with an orthodontist in Sao Paulo, with whom he remained for six years. Dr. Jakob graduated from the Continuing Education Program at the Roth-Williams Center for Functional Occlusion in Burlingame, California in 1998. In 2001, Dr. Jakob completed his Master's program in Orthodontics at Camilo Castelo Branco University, in São Paulo, and concludes the Philosophy Doctorate (PhD) in Orthodontics in 2012 at Sao Leopoldo Mandic College in Campinas, Brazil. Dr. Jakob was an international speaker in Latin America for GAC Dentsply (USA) and Forestadent (Germany), having participated in lectures and courses in Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, Colombia and Mexico. In scientific production, Dr. Jakob has published 17 scientific articles in leading orthodontic journals in Brazil, with emphasis on self-ligating biomechanics. Dr. Jakob currently is Director of three postgraduate dental centers in Brazil, having moved to the United States in February of this year, where he intends to share his professional experience.

Rogerio Schmidt Armando, DDS, MS

Dr. Rogerio Schmidt Armando received his Dental Degree in 1997 from the Methodist University of São Paulo (UMESP), in Brazil. After his graduation, Dr. Schmidt was accepted into postgraduate course in Radiology at Camilo Castelo Branco University (UCCB) and obtained the title of specialist in Radiology in 2000. During this year and a half of HIS postgraduate studies in Radiology, Dr. Schmidt interned at the Paulistano Hospital of São Paulo in the Radiology sector. Dr. Schmidt was accepted to the postgraduate course in orthodontics at the São Bernardo do Campo Paulista Dentist Surgeon Association (APCD-SBC) which in 2001 obtained the title of Specialist in Orthodontics and Facial Orthopedics. In 2001, Dr. Schmidt was accepted into the Master of Orthodontics program at the Methodist University of São Paulo (UMESP), which earned the title of Master of Orthodontics in 2003. During the master’s, period Dr. Schmidt wrote two articles which were published in Brazilian scientific journals and wrote his master's dissertation and started his career as a teacher in orthodontics. Dr. Schmidt has participated as a speaker at several international congresses and has given courses in various countries such as the United States, Brazil, Portugal, Ecuador, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. Dr. Schmidt from 2003 to 2005 was the president and coordinating professor of the postgraduate course in orthodontics at the ABC Brazilian Dental Association (ABO-ABC). IN 2008 Dr. Schmidt received an Honorable Mention award IN the 16th Brazilian Congress of Orthodontics - Orto 2008-SPO, for the presentation of a scientific study. Dr. Schmidt in 2014 until 2016 was director of THE Saint Germain College of São Paulo, Brazil. In 2015 Dr. Schmidt wrote his book under the title "Philosophy of orthodontic treatment with passive self-ligating brackets". In America, Dr. Schmidt deepened his knowledge of the new invisible aligner orthodontic technique, and currently works as an Educational and Orthodontic Director at Vita Dental 3d - CleaLine. In 2018, Dr. Schmidt created the invisible aligners with jaw position bands and in 2019 created the invisible aligners with lip bumpers.

  • Auxiliaries (buttons, elastics and TADs)
  • Crossbites: Use of Aligner Expander and Intermaxillary Elastics
  • Refining and Finishing
