COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to teach how to effectively and predictably maintain the dimensions of the alveolar ridge following tooth extractions. At the end of the course the participants should have the ability to correctly plan and effectively utilize various surgical extraction ridge preservation techniques.

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Dr. Koutouzis

Dr Koutouzis earned his Certificate and Master’s degree in Periodontics from Gothenburg University, Sweden and from the University of Florida, College of Dentistry. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr Koutouzis is Associate Professor at the Department of Periodontology and Director of Advanced Specialty Education in Periodontology at Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  He has published research on periodontal disease management and dental implant dentistry.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

At the end of the course Participants will be able to:

  • Understand the contemporary techniques and instrumentation for minimally traumatic exodontia
  • Understand the benefits and rational for ridge preservation
  • Understand how the biologic events during healing of the extraction socket relate to ridge preservation concepts
  • Understand the role of different biomaterials on ridge preservation techniques
  • Understand the differences between ridge preservation and ridge augmentation procedures
  • Understand basic surgical concepts related to ridge preservation procedures
  • Understand treatment concepts for compromised and non-compromised extraction sockets
  • Understand the factors involved in the decision making for immediate implant placement vs. ridge preservation and delayed implant placement

Using the HPD Parking garage to start, walk down the hallway to the first building immediately at your left. When inside walk down the hallway and make a left at the elevator. Take the elevator to the second floor, make a right then down the hallway to the room labeled AUD 2-D.
