COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides the participant with the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to fabricate provisional restorations. The course consists of fabricating single unit provisional crowns from a clear plastic crown form on prepared teeth and implant abutments, fabricating anterior and posterior provisional bridges using the direct and indirect techniques, and fabricate two three-unit acrylic provisional bridges (one from a pre-op impression and one from a vacuum-formed matrix) on prepared models.   Given all necessary armamentarium, the participant will fabricate a single-unit anterior and a single-unit posterior temporary crown from a clear plastic crown form. Cementation and removal of provisional restorations are also covered.

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Thomas Leonard, DMD

Dr. Leonard developed a passion for dentistry while pursuing a degree in Integrated Biology at the University of Florida. He began his dental training at NSU’s College of Dental Medicine in 2007. He joined the Psi-Omega Professional Dental Fraternity, became a student member of the American Dental Association, and was appointed to the American Student Dental Association Board of Directors—all during his freshman year. Dr. Leonard continued to hold many leadership positions throughout his training, culminating in senior class president and vice president of the Oral Surgery Honors Society. He graduated in May 2011, obtained his Florida dental license, and joined a private practice in Sunrise, Florida. Dr. Leonard is also a clinical adjunct faculty member at NSU’s College of Dental Medicine, where he works with third-and fourth-year students while they craft treatment plans and complete comprehensive dental care on patients. He is also on the board review faculty team that prepares senior dental students for their various licensure examinations. Currently, Dr. Leonard is pursuing a fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry and serves our country as an officer in the Army Reserve Dental Corps.

Sravanthi (Shevy) Kadiyala, DMD

Dr. Sravanthi (Shevy) Kadiyala received her Bachelor of Science in Dental Surgery from Bharath University in India, and her Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she graduated Summa cum Laude.

Prior to continuing her education at Nova Southeastern University, Dr. Shevy practiced dentistry as a solo practitioner in private practice in Jamaica for 4 years.

When she is not practicing dentistry, Dr. Shevy enjoys traveling, reading, spending quality time with her family, and learning new languages. She is fluent in six different languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Patois. She has been a teaching assistant for "Expanded functions for dental auxiliaries" for over 3 years at Nova Southeastern University.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

  • Understanding of the theoretical knowledge for fabricating provisionals
  • Practical ability to fabricate provisionals.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

  • Must have completed “The Expanded Functions for the Dental Health Care Team” and experience taking alginate impressions.
  • All Hands-On supplies will be provided.
