Course Description

The Preceptorship Program in Periodontology is intended for graduates of dental schools outside of the United States and Canada. The program offers a didactic training as well as clinical exposure and observation. The Preceptorship in Periodontology is a full time program. Prospective students will participate in lectures, seminars and hands on activities along with the postgraduate residents. Clinical activities are limited to observation and assistance in the planning and execution of non-surgical and surgical procedures. Preceptors will have the opportunity to participate in research activities.

Course Director

Saynur Vardar-Sengul, D.D.S., P.h.D. is the chair of Department of Periodontology at College of Dental Medicine, Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She received Certificate in Advanced Graduate Studies in Periodontology from Boston University Henry Goldman School of Dental Medicine.  Dr. Vardar is a Diplomate of American Board of Periodontology. She practices Periodontics in South Florida and has grants on conducting periodontal research. She has special interest on Minimally Invasive Accelerated Orthodontic Techniques and soft tissue management around teeth and implants. She has been serving as a reviewer for many international Journals.  Dr. Vardar published several articles and book chapters, and she gives presentations nationally and internationally.

Admission Process and Application Requirements

Prospective students should apply directly to the Department of Periodontology. Applications will be reviewed by the Department’s Admissions Committee. Deadline for application is  February 28, 2020 and the anticipated start date of the program is July 1. Personal interview will be required for acceptance into the program.

The following requirements must be provided:

  1. Preceptorship Program Application
  2. Current Curriculum Vitae
  3. A personal statement
  4. Three letters of recommendation.
  5. Copy of a Diploma of Dental Degree.
  6. If dental school training was not in English, applicant must provide TOEFL scores
  7. Official transcripts from all dental education completed. Coursework taken at foreign institutions must be evaluated for U.S. institution equivalence. This coursework must be evaluated by one of the following services:

This program is not accredited by any local or national accreditation body. Upon successfully completion of the program, preceptors will received a certificate of attendance.  Admission and completion of the program does not guarantee acceptance to the Advanced Specialty Education in Periodontology.
