Roberto Joaquin Cabassa Latoni

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and went to Cupeyville School graduating from High School in 1980. He went to the University of Puerto Rico for his B.S. and then admitted to the School of Dental Medicine, Health Sciences Campus at the same Institution. After graduating as a D.M.D. he joined the U.S. Navy Dental Corps where he retired after twenty-eight years of service. While in the Navy he spent seven years as general practitioner and then went to the University of Iowa Pediatric Dentistry Program. After completion of the program he continued his naval career as pediatric dentist.

 

Dr. Cabassa became a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry in 2002. He served as Department Head, Clinic Director and Chief of Dental Services at various Naval Hospitals. In 2009 he became the top Pediatric Dentist for the U.S. Navy as the Specialty Advisor for pediatric dentistry to the Navy Surgeon General. 

 

After retirement from the Naval Service he went to private practice in Southern Spain after achieving his dental boards. In 2018 he became part of the Nova Southeastern University Pediatric Dentistry Program faculty as full time Assistant Professor.

Dr. Cabassa speaks fluently English, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. Most of his naval career he spend it in Japan, Italy and Spain among others. He has lectured in more than eleven countries and is an Honorary Life Member of the International Association of Dental Students.

Teaching activities:

Dr. Cabassa teaches full-time clinical pediatric dentistry at KID clinic, MSC clinic, Caridad clinic, and Joe DiMaggio clinic.

 

Favorite hobby:

Dr. Cabassa enjoys wood working and home renovation. He enjoys cooking and love seafood.
