Alumni Relations

The purpose of the Dental Alumni Society is to:  advance the mission of the College; provide useful services and resources to advance dental education; promote collegiality among all alumni; and to promote Nova Southeastern University.  All graduates of the College are members of the Society. Non-alumni friends, faculty and staff, and graduates of other dental programs are eligible to join the Dental Alumni Society as associate members.  

All Dentistry, Master’ degree, postdoctoral and specialty program graduates are members of the Society. Non-alumni friends, faculty and staff, and graduates of other dental programs are eligible to join the Dental Alumni Society as associate members.  The Dental Society activities include service projects, reunions, student recruitment, social events, awarding scholarships, mentoring, networking, and professional development.

The purpose of Dental Alumni Society Advisory Board shall be to provide leadership necessary to advance the Dental Alumni Society and the members it serves; to assist in the planning of alumni events; recognize and celebrate the activities of alumni; provide counsel to the Dean; act as ambassadors for the College; and act as a role model for annual giving.   The Advisory Board meets bi-annually.  The members not able to meet in South Florida area may be linked into the meetings electronically.

The Dental Alumni Society Advisory Board will include recognizing and celebrating the activities of the NSU College of Dental Medicine alumni. Listed below are the alumni recognition awards and the criteria for recognition.  These awards will be presented at appropriate venues to celebrate their accomplishments.

Distinguished Alumni Award

The nominee must hold a position of distinction in dentistry with a demonstrated history of success in his or her field and to community service. He or she must have proven and demonstrated loyalty to the University and to the College of Dental Medicine. The nominee must also be a recognized civic leader who displays extraordinary service and a commitment to serving others. All alumni with more than 10 years of professional experience are eligible for the Distinguished Alumni Award.  The selection of the award is made by the College Alumni Society with advice from an ad hoc awards committee.   The Awardee shall be recognized at the NSU Celebration of Excellence and the CDM Annual Recognition Dinner.

Distinguished Specialty Alumni Awards

Each post-graduate program shall select a distinguished alumni that has demonstrated history of success in his or her field and be of interest to the University and/or the College for their past service and/or support. Departments (chairs, program directors and faculty) are given latitude to select their department recipients using numerous resources including the advice and input from the College Alumni Society, the Dean’s Office, and an alumnus/alumna familiar with the candidates. Final selection of the Department Award is made by each department, while the selection of the other awards is made by the College Alumni Society with advice from an ad hoc awards committee.   All alumni with 5 years of professional experience are eligible for the Distinguished Specialty Alumni Award.  The Awardee shall be recognized at the CDM Annual Recognition Dinner.

Award of Merit

The nominee must be an alumnus of NSU College of Dental Medicine who graduated no longer than 10 years earlier than the year of recognition. The nominee should have already demonstrated notable success in a career related to dentistry, and should be supportive of NSU and the College.  The selection of the award is made by the College Alumni Society with advice from an ad hoc awards committee.   The Awardee shall be recognized at the NSU Celebration of Excellence and the CDM Annual Recognition Dinner.

Student Leadership Award

The Student Leadership Award annually recognizes a dental student and 1 post-graduate student for his/her accomplishments and contributions and/or service to the College  and/or Nova Southeastern  University. Students are recognized for, among others, their research, presentations at conferences and seminars, service, and other school and/or University committees. The Student Leadership Award is the School’s highest designated award for students.

All current students of the College who took an active role are eligible for the Student Leadership Award.

Friend of CDM Award

The nominee is an individual or business who has been a friend and supporter of the NSU College of Dental Medicine and/or the CDM Alumni Society. The nominee will not be an alumnus of the College of Dental Medicine using numerous resources including the advice and input from the Dean’s Office, and an alumnus/alumna familiar with the candidates. Final selection of the Friend of CDM Award is made by the College Alumni Society with advice from an ad-hoc awards committee using  numerous resources including the advice and input from the Dean’s Office, and an alumnus/alumna familiar with the candidates.  The Awardee shall be recognized at the Annual Recognition Dinner

The following levels recognize alumni and friends commitment to the College and dental profession.  Graduates are encouraged to pledge a minimum annual gift of $100 for every year after graduation.   An annual gift of $1997 or more, you receive an invitation to the annual School’s Appreciation Dinner, recognized in The Society publication, and listed on the electronic Honor Roll.

Recent  Alumni Society

All dentistry, Master’s degree, post-doctoral and specialty program graduates are members of the Dental Society upon graduation and will receive benefits of the Society under the Young Alumni (1-4 years post-graduation).  Recognizing the financial hardships upon graduation, as a Young Alumni, the Society requests consideration of each young alumnus to pledge a minimum annual gift of $100 for every year after graduation 

Dean’s Circle

Alumni and/or friends of the College who choose to pledge an annual gift of $500 - $1996, to a giving fund are recognized in the Dean’s Circle. The Dean’s Circle Society members are invited to the annual school’s Appreciation Dinner during the Alumni Society Symposium, recognized in the College of Dental Medicine’s publication and the online Honor Roll, and invitations to special events throughout the year.

 Founders Society

Alumni and/or friends of the College who choose to pledge an annual gift of $1997 - $4999, to a giving fund of are recognized in the Founder’s Society. The Founder’s Society members are donors who gave a minimum annual gift of $1997. The name of the society is a reminder of the founding year of the NSU College of Dental Medicine, 1997. Society members are invited to the annual school’s Appreciation Dinner during the Alumni Society Symposium, recognized in the College of Dental Medicine’s publication and the online Honor Roll, and invitations to special events throughout the year.

Dean’s Society

Alumni and/or friends of the College who choose to pledge a cumulative gift of $5000 – $9999 to a giving fund receive recognition in the Dean’s Society.  The Dean’s Society members are invited to the annual school’s Appreciation Dinner during the Alumni Society Symposium, recognized in the College of Dental Medicine’s publication and the online Honor Roll, and invitations to special events throughout the year.

Dean’s Council

Alumni and/or friends of the College who choose to pledge a cumulative gift of $10000 – $24999 to a giving fund receive recognition in the Dean’s Council. Members of this society are acknowledged for their leadership, and commitment to the College and the dental profession and members of the Alumni Society Advisory Board

Dean’s Leadership Society

Alumni and/or friends of the College who choose to pledge a cumulative gift of $25000 – $49999 to a giving fund receive recognition as a member of the Dean’s Leadership Society.  The Dean’s Leadership Society is the College’s premier giving society and members of the Alumni Society Advisory Board.  Members have the satisfaction of knowing that they are lead supporters of the College and the dental profession.   In recognition of their commitment, members are not solicited for annual giving for the duration of their pledge commitment. 

Fellow Society

Alumni and/or friends of NSU who choose to pledge a cumulative gift of $50,000 or more, to a giving fund will be inducted in to the NSU Fellow Society. 

Friends of the Alumni Society

In addition to the many contributions that our faculty and staff make to the University to the success of our students and graduates, many have further demonstrated their dedication by making an annual gift to the college.  These dedicated employees are associate members within the Alumni Society.

 The Alumni Society provides the opportunity for corporate members to become associate members with established benefits based on level of giving.  Corporate members should contact the Office for Professional Development for additional information.

Your gift to the Dean's Excellence Fund provides the dental school with the flexibility to enhance the College and support new initiatives. The Dean's Excellence Fund directly benefits students, faculty, staff and patients.      

Dental Alumni Society Scholarship Fund

Your gift to the Dental Alumni Society Scholarship Fund assists the College in providing student scholarships to help defray the cost of dental education.  Eligible students will be selected based on merit-based criteria by the Alumni Society Board of Directors.

Friends of the Alumni Society Fund

Your gift to the Friends of the Alumni Society Fund assists the College in providing top-notched programming for continuing professional development (CE) and supports alumni services and events.  The Friends of the Alumni Society Fund directly benefits the Alumni Society.
