Orofacial Pain and TMJ Disorders

NSU School of Dental Medicine announces a new specialty department  in Dentistry of Orofacial Pain. This new specialty was approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) in March 2020 to improve access to care for patients suffering from TMD and other facial pain disorders.

Drs. Harold Menchel and Dr. Divya Kohli were brought to the dental school specifically to establish a new department for this specialty, treating patients, educating dental students, and continuing their research in the field.

The Team

The Orofacial Pain specialist often cannot treat patients alone and we have assembled the following team to assist us when needed.

Physical Therapist: to improve range of motion, postural reeducation, pain reduction, home exercise programs

Neurology: headache management, neuropathic pain and neuralgia

Rheumatology: arthritic management

Clinical Psychology: non-medication stress reduction, cognitive behavioral management, relaxation therapy 

Otolaryngology: ( ENT) for sinus, throat, salivary pain

Myofunctional Therapy: speech, mouth and tongue positioning 

Oral Medicine: dry and burning mouth, intraoral lesions , oral pathology

Radiology: for CT and MRI evaluation

Endocrinology: hormonal evaluation
