
Dr. Steve J. Mescher, as a member of the Oral Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences staff,
works a clinical instructor with D3 and D4 students to improve their diagnostic and
documentation skills. Dr. Mescher received his dental degree in 1980 at the University
of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, and Master in Health Service Administration
from Saint Joseph’s College.
For a period of almost 30 years he served with the United States Coast Guard as a
U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Officer and later as a member of the Commissioned
Corps Readiness Force. During that time Dr. Mescher gained extensive experience in
clinical dentistry, quality assurance, and administration. Having served at nine different
duty locations, he ultimately served at the level of Director, (Chief of Health Services)
of outpatient health clinics in Alaska and later in Florida. Dr. Mescher was awarded
three Commendation Medals, the Greater Miami Healthcare Heroes Award in 2002, Fellow
in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2003, and Fellow in the American College of
Healthcare Executives in 2008.
