Dr. Mauro Mesko is a Brazilian who speaks Portuguese, English, and Spanish. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine (NSU-CDM).
Dr. Mesko received his dental degree in 1998 from the Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPel) in Brazil. He then joined the Brazilian Army, where he practiced for seven years as a General Practitioner in Bagé, RS, and also started his own practice in 2002. In 2002, he specialized in Dentofacial Orthopedics and completed his Orthodontics specialization in 2006 in Brazil. He moved back to Pelotas to pursue his Master’s in Prosthodontics, which he completed in 2012 at UFPel. As part of his doctorate proposal, he was awarded a one-semester scholarship at Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre in the Netherlands. He obtained his Ph.D. in Restorative Dentistry in 2015 from UFPel. Additionally, he completed a one-year clinical training course in Periodontal and Implant Surgery in 2019 at IEOM in Pelotas, RS, Brazil.
Dr. Mesko's passion for practicing dentistry and teaching led him to begin a temporary position as a Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at UFPel for one semester in 2012, to cover a maternity leave. Later, in 2015, he started teaching Dental Implant Prosthesis, Prosthodontics, and Restorative Dentistry in a private continuing education course (IEOM). In 2018, he was hired to teach Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, and General Dentistry at Universidade Católica de Pelotas (UCPel), where he worked until 2020.
In 2021, Dr. Mesko moved with his family to South Florida after being hired for a full-time faculty position at the College of Dental Medicine at NSU. He serves as the clinical team leader in the pre-doctoral clinic for third- and fourth-year dental students. He also teaches postgraduate residents at NSU and manages his dental research project. Furthermore, he has participated in Remote Area Medical mission trips, providing dental care to underserved communities in Florida and Tennessee.
At the Faculty Practice (NSU Health), Dr. Mesko combines his scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to deliver patient-centered, multidisciplinary dental care in Restorative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Implant Dental Prosthesis, and Esthetic Dentistry, both as part of the Faculty Practice Team and independently.
Additionally, Dr. Mesko gives back to the NSU community by entertaining at internal events with his guitar, performing Bossa Nova, American standards, Beatles songs, blues, and jazz.
