Introductory Session

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The beginner tooth waxing and denture course session will develop participants' hand/ instrument techniques such as: finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness and aiming and reaction time of dental materials. This course will also assist the participants to improve his or her performance before going to school. The objective of this course is to help the participant to discover their weak and strong points in eye hand coordination. This one-day course will no doubt help build confidence, maturity, thoughtfulness, and endurance in achieving the goal in manual dexterity. No experience required.

Mark Hunt Sr., CDT

Mark Hunt Sr., has been an instructor for the Vinmar Solutions Pre-Dental Series at UCLA Dental School and Pre-Dental Societies in Northern and Southern California since 1992.  His experience in clinical dentistry techniques of over 35 years at UCLA includes managing the Teaching Laboratories and the Professional Laboratories, Bench Instructor in 101-Tooth Waxing, and assisted in numerous research projects in bio-materials.  His passion for mentoring pre-dental students is demonstrated by his involvement in establishing the expansion of the UCLA Undergrad Volunteer Program for pre-dental students, supervising the UCLA Three-Dimensional Dental Teaching Aids Department, and Founder of the UCLA Pre-Dental Club, presently known as the UCLA Pre- Dental Student Outreach Program.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

At the end of the session attendees will:

  • Learn hands-on techniques of hot dropping wax patterns and shapes. 
  • Learn the behavior of wax hot flow and solidification.
  • Learn a step-by-step procedure of reconstructing a mandibular molar.
  • Setting upper and lower anterior denture teeth.
  • Denture festooning techniques.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

A certificate will be given after the completion of each course. Also, a letter of recommendation will be awarded to those who scored high on the final exam.
