Pre-Dental: Intro to Clinical Dentistry Techniques

Pre-Dental Clinical Simulation Series: Course I

Course Description

The Pre-Dental Clinical Simulation Courses consist of a series of hands-on preclinical exercises and laboratory procedures that provide participants with a better understanding of dental school and the profession. Participants will have the opportunity to work in our newly renovated advanced simulation technology laboratory.  The Series is developed to build on the knowledge gained from previous courses and participants must enroll in the course series in a sequential manner.

The Pre-Dental Clinical Simulation Course I is an introduction to clinical dentistry techniques.  Participants will learn how to use dental hand instrument properly by completing tooth waxing exercises with utilizing manual dexterity techniques such as finger dexterity, reaction time, and arm-hand steadiness.  Participants will also set denture teeth and create natural looking gingival tissue, called festooning.   These exercises help participants learn tooth anatomy and the arrangement of the dentition (teeth).

The Series is developed to build on the knowledge gained from previous courses. These abilities are necessary for precision work. It is highly recommended that participants enroll in the course series in a sequential manner.
